New Song Alert: God is Alive

Ditto to the first post. I am planning on actually following up this time around...

Found out about an amazing new song while perusing the Northpoint Music Blog (www.northpointmusic.org) the other day.

Tangent: About Northpoint Music Blog - If you haven't read this one, its a good resource. A Reid Greven or Matt W. updates the blog regularly with tidbits on what was in the Northpoint service that week, how they incorporated the songs into worship and some of the musical/thematic elements of the whole production. This kind of thing is really helpful in forming a vision for flow in worship planning.

So I found a new song called "God is Alive", written by Steve Fee and Eddie Kirkland. Amazing! Chorus lyrics: "Everyone, Glorify the risen Son, The Holy One has Overcome, Jesus Is Alive!..." Love it. This is what salvation is all about, isn't it? Calling others to join in the victory we have through Christ. And what is more motivating than to know that the God we serve is alive and relavant in our lives today? In essence,
"God is Alive" communicates to me that "God is Real... listen and wake up, darn it". Also, I'm always excited when I find an upbeat and congregational song these days. Popular worship seems to have taken on a bit of an epoch-ridden mix of slow to medium ballads that, while gut-renching and relevant, scriptural worship, leave me searching for exciting songs for celebration and fellowship on Sunday morning.

Anyway, Northpoint did a cool switcharoo, and put some loop-age from The Killer's "Human" behind the first chorus before breaking into the 'song-proper' (snobby British overtones there). Great idea guys! They also crammed some excellent guitar riffs in here as well. I know a lot of the "shreddy" guitarists we have at church would enjoy that riff over the into/vamp section. Check it out below!

(For those of you following on Facebook, I posted the video to my Links)

Hopefully, I can post back semi-regularly now. Enjoy the newly arriving spring/summer weather... it's about time!

Happy Christmas... from sound and substance

So this will be a playground for notes on my life and journey through worship/music/etc. I'm constantly researching new sounds/equipment to incorporate into songwriting and corporate worship. My intent is that we will learn together while I pass on what tips I have and research the not yet known!

Expect some reorganization of the blog infrastructure... a little ugly right now... i know. Let's try and get past that for now. I'm trying to get regular posts flowing before the Christmas break is over with, and hopefully I can start posting at least once a week. I'm not new to blogging, but I've never been a regular, or well-behaved blogger....

In other words... I guess this post is not much but a hello! I will get back with you soon!
